Chris O'Hearn steps down as Mason Co. coach to become principal at Mason Co.

After 11 seasons at the boys' varsity coach at Mason County, Chris O'Hearn has resigned to become the principal at Mason County. O'Hearn is the second winningest coach at Mason County with a 260-85 record. Here is the press release from Mason County High School:

The Mason County High School Site Based Decision Making Council has chosen a new
principal for the Mason County School System.  The choice is current assistant
principal and head basketball coach Chris O’Hearn. He is a 24 year veteran of
education spending 19 of those years here at Mason County.  Since 2004 Mr. O’Hearn
has been the high school assistant principal and boys head basketball coach. Before
that Mr. O’Hearn was the principal of Mason County Middle School for two years and
assistant principal at the high school for one year.

Chris O’Hearn graduated from Georgetown College in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science
degree – majoring in Physical Education and minoring in Political Science.

He subsequently obtained 2 Masters Degrees from Morehead State University – one in
Secondary Education and another in Instructional Leadership.

Mr. O’Hearn is also a 1985 graduate of Mason County High School.

Mr. O’Hearn will resign as boys head basketball coach.  He started a highly
successful stint as head coach in 2004. Under his guidance the Royals won regional
titles in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. It was the 2008 season when he led the Royals
to the state basketball championship.  His 2010 team made it to the final four.
Mr. O’Hearn is married to current Mason County Jailer Lisa O’Hearn and has two
children – Cameron who is a sophomore and Olivia who is an eighth grader.
